Medical Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff Selected

ASNA is pleased to announce Dr. Barbara Medlin has been named Chief of Staff for Physician Services at SSMH for the second year in a row. In addition, Dr. Alanna Small has been named Deputy Chief of Staff for Physician Services.

March 7, 2016 – Barrow, AK – Arctic Slope Native Association (ASNA) is pleased to announce Dr. Barbara Medlin has been named Chief of Staff for Physician Services at Simmonds Memorial Hospital (SSMH) for the second year in a row. Over the 25 years of her practice career, she has provided general medical care as a Family Practitioner, delivered over 500 babies, provided hospital care and nursing home care, and worked in Emergency Rooms and Urgent Care Clinics. One of her daughter's, Dr. Kimlea Medlin serves as the Dental Director and staff dentist here at SSMH. Dr. Barbara Medlin is looking forward to continuing her role as Chief of Staff and spending more time with her grandchildren in Barrow.

In addition, Dr. Alanna Small has been named Deputy Chief of Staff for Physician Services. Dr. Small began her employment at SSMH in 2015 as an Internal Medicine physician and has been integral in expanding SSMH inpatient services. After having completed her residency training and chief resident year at the Tulane School of Medicine Internal Medicine program in Louisiana, Dr. Small joined the Internal Medicine Hospitalist department at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, AK.
