Medical Travel and Funeral Assistance

Some of the most difficult decisions to make in health care involve how to pay to access the services you need and where to get help when someone we love passes on. The Medical Travel and Funeral Assistance Program supports the traditional Iñupiat values of compassion, cooperation, and love and respect for one another.

The Medical Travel and Funeral Assistance (MTFA) Program is the largest program within the Social Services department.

Arctic Slope Regional Corporation and North Slope Borough have granted funds to ASNA to manage the MTFA Program. MTFA provides aid to ASRC shareholders and residents of the North Slope Borough in medical or funeral crisis when no other alternative funds are available to pay for such services.

Eligibility Requirements

For ASRC Shareholders:

  • You must be an enrolled ASRC Shareholder;
  • Household income during the previous twelve (12) months is less than the current Federal Poverty Income Guidelines;
  • You must have a medical referral for medical travel or housing

For NSB Residents:

  • You must be a resident of the North Slope Borough;
  • You must have met the residency requirement of living on the Slope for 30 days;
  • Household income during the previous twelve (12) months is less than the current Federal Poverty Income Guidelines;
  • You must have a medical referral for medical travel or housing
