ASNA@50

The year 2015 marked the 50th anniversary for ASNA.

We had events throughout the year to celebrate our rich organizational history and support our mission to promote the health and well-being of the people of the Arctic Slope.

The ASNA 50th Anniverary Committee celebrated Samuel Simmonds Day on January 26, 2015 with the revealing of his portrait, painted by local artist Austin Parkhill. Family and friends of Simmonds were in attendance for the special occasion.

Simmonds was one of the original founders of ASNA. The Barrow Hospital was named after him in 1996.

Another initiative by the ASNA 50th Anniversary Committee was, “50 days, 50 ways” to get you and our community healthier. Part of this initiative included free one hour fitness classes at the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital throughout the year, including Zumba and Insanity.
