Leavitt Joins ASNA Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of Arctic Slope Native Association (ASNA) appointed Doreen Fogg-Leavitt at its meeting on July 8, 2016 to fill the “At-Large” seat, effective immediately.

The seat was previously held by Board Treasurer Lillian “Aana” Lane of Point Hope for the past eleven years.

“On behalf of ASNA and the Board, I would like to thank Aana for her years of selfless dedication and passion for the health and well-being of our tribal members,” ASNA Board Chair Thomas Olemaun said.

“We congratulate Doreen Leavitt on her appointment and her new role as Vice-Chair of the ASNA Board,” Marie Carroll, ASNA President/CEO said.

Leavitt was also selected to serve as Vice-Chair of the nine-member Board, which is the governing body of ASNA and provides leadership and oversight of the organization. Interim Board Chair Thomas Olemaun was also confirmed to serve as Board Chair, following months of serving as Interim Chair.

Leavitt has been Director of the North Slope Borough Department of Health & Human Services since 2011. She graduated from Carroll College with a nursing degree in 2001. Leavitt has also held various roles employed as a Public Health Nurse, Nurse Manager and on national and statewide boards.

ASNA Board members are appointed by the eight tribal councils of the Arctic Slope, with one at-large member voted in by the ASNA Board of Directors. The full board meets quarterly, with an additional retreat focused on ASNA’s strategic direction.
