Travel Services

The purpose of the Travel Department is to provide efficient and excellent service to all that we serve.

Patient Care and Care Coordination is a high priority for Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital. Patient Care Coordination is a combination of staff and resources to provide the best care possible.

The resources available for patient travel include:

There are three types of patient travel:

  1. Emergent Travel
  2. Urgent Travel
  3. Scheduled Travel

Emergent Travel: Imminent Danger, Loss of Life or Limb

Here are the criteria for emergent travel:

  • The escort is authorized by the medical provider or medivac flight crew
  • If authorized escort is unable to go medivac, then SSMH authorizes commercial flight travel
  • SSMH Travel will provide the authorized escort's return ticket
  • Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) Quyana Travel prepares return flight for patient and escort on medevac

Urgent Travel: Non emergent, though condition with possible threats to life or limb

If you travel through SSMH urgent travel, the provider authorizes commercial flight travel (Alaska Airlines or RavN Airlines) for medical reasons. For all SSMH authorized commercial flight travel, the patient must be an Indian Health Services beneficiary.
